Turn Your Eyes
Stellar VBS

Oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, Jesus

O soul, are you weary and troubled?
No light in the darkness you see
There’s light for a look at the Savior
And life more abundant and free

Turn your eyes
Turn your eyes
Turn your eyes upon Jesus
…
Oh, oh-oh-oh
Oh, Jesus
…

Turn your eyes upon Jesus
Look full in His wonderful face
And the things of the earth will grow strangely dim
In the light of His glory and grace

This Little Light of Mine
Stellar VBS

This little light of mine,
I’m gonna let it shine
(3x)
Let it shine
Let it shine
Let it shine

Everywhere I go,
I’m gonna let it shine
(3x)
Let it shine
Let it shine
Let it shine

Even when I’m afraid,
I’m gonna let it shine
(3x)
Let it shine
Let it shine
Let it shine
Yet Not I but Through Christ in Me
CityAlight

What gift of grace is Jesus my redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness, and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to His
Oh how strange and divine, I can sing, "All is mine"
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

The night is dark but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Saviour He will stay
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need, His power is displayed

To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me
Through the deepest valley He will lead
Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And He was raised to overthrow the grave

To this I hold, my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh the chains are released, I can sing, "I am free"
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

With every breath I long to follow Jesus
For He has said that He will bring me home
And day by day I know He will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne

To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
All the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat
Yet not I, but through Christ in me
…

  1. Today’s discussion topic – God’s comfort. Read the following Scriptures:
----------------------------------------------
Comfort, comfort my people, says your God.
Speak tenderly to Jerusalem,
    and cry to her
that her warfare is ended,
    that her iniquity is pardoned,
that she has received from the Lord's hand
    double for all her sins.

(ISAIAH 40:1-2)
----------------------------------------------
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, so that we may be able to comfort those who are in any affliction, with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.
(2 CORINTHIANS 1:3-4)
----------------------------------------------
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.
(PSALM 23:4)
내가 사망의 음침한 골짜기로 다닐찌라도 해를 두려워하지 않을 것은 주께서 나와 함께 하심이라 주의 지팡이와 막대기가 나를 안위하시나이다
----------------------------------------------
Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
(MATTHEW 11:28-30)

Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.
(MATTHEW 5:4)
애통하는 자는 복이 있나니 저희가 위로를 받을 것임이요
----------------------------------------------
Remember your word to your servant, in which you have made me hope. This is my comfort in my affliction, that your promise gives me life.
(PSALM 119:49-50)
주의 종에게 하신 말씀을 기억하소서 주께서 나로 소망이 있게 하셨나이다 이 말씀은 나의 곤란 중에 위로라 주의 말씀이 나를 살리셨음이니이다
----------------------------------------------

  1. What is the comfort of God according to these Scriptures?
  2. How can you receive this comfort from the LORD?
  3. How can God’s comfort change the way you pray, ask for prayer, and know God’s answer to prayer?

----------------------------------------------

Life-Praying
Spend a moment with the holy Spirit. Pray for one another.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
(1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-18)
항상 기뻐하라 쉬지 말고 기도하라 범사에 감사하라 이는 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희를 향하신 하나님의 뜻이니라

…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.
(PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7)
"아무 것도 염려하지 말고 오직 모든 일에 기도와 간구로, 너희 구할 것을 감사함으로 하나님께 아뢰라" 그리하면 모든 지각에 뛰어난 하나님의 평강이 그리스도 예수 안에서 너희 마음과 생각을 지키시리라

Life-Sharing
  1. What has God been teaching you through the visions of the book of ISAIAH and messages this past month? Pick one of the prior week’s central truths and discern what the holy Spirit is desiring to say through it.

Because You Have Prayed
(ISAIAH 37:21-38)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
Because King Hezekiah prayed, he saw with greater clarity what God was already doing and the sign that He was at work. Prayer must make us aware with greater clarity that God already knows what we are going through, calls us His precious sons and daughters in the midst of it. It must silence our raised voice, bring low our lifted eyes, illumine God’s determined plan, show a sign of providence, upholding His glory for His own sake, against all odds prove that He fights on our behalf. So pray, unleash the power and fruits of godly prayer!
KEY VERSE:  21 Then Isaiah the son of Amoz sent to Hezekiah, saying, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: Because you have prayed to me concerning Sennacherib king of Assyria, 22 this is the word that the Lord has spoken concerning him: “‘She despises you, she scorns you—the virgin daughter of Zion; she wags her head behind you—the daughter of Jerusalem…. 30 “And this shall be the sign for you: this year you shall eat what grows of itself, and in the second year what springs from that. Then in the third year sow and reap, and plant vineyards, and eat their fruit. 31 And the surviving remnant of the house of Judah shall again take root downward and bear fruit upward… 35 For I will defend this city to save it, for my own sake and for the sake of my servant David.”

You Alone are the LORD
(ISAIAH 37:1-20)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
There will be many things to fear in life. How can fear turn into faith? Instead of being covered by distress, go into the house of the LORD, where fear in the world is rebuked by the words of the living God. Do not be afraid of escalating evil but put your hope in the God who sees, already planned in promise to deliver. Pray to the LORD, who inclines your ears and eyes to see He alone is the LORD. Then, what can we fear? Fear will be unveiled as the false god it is before the living God alone, so live in and from the victory Jesus has won now and forever.
KEY VERSE:, 15 And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: 16 “O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth. Incline your ear, O Lord, and hear; open your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God… 20 So now, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the Lord.”

Do Not Answer

(ISAIAH 36:11-22)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
As much as what is spoken, what is kept from being spoken is just as important before the LORD. He will call us to stay still, to not speak, to not answer. When can we discern these times? Do not speak when your focus is on how you will be heard over how God will hear you. Do not be deceived to correct the adversary’s lies and justify yourself, for the LORD will justify and surely deliver you. Have your mouth guarded over your clothes torn – do not be defeated in despair but immovable in the words of Christ, richly dwelling within you.
KEY VERSE: 20 Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their lands out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’” 21 But they were silent and answered him not a word, for the king's command was, “Do not answer him.”

  1. How has your walk with the Lord grown since the last time we gathered? What areas of your spiritual health have been nourished? What areas are still in need of growth that we can treat together with the Word and Spirit?
  2. What hardships, difficulties, trials, and/or unanswered prayers are you going through that we can all carry together as one body in Christ?
  3. “In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world,” says Jesus (JOHN 16:33). How can we take heart today and overcome?
Life-Praying
  1. What requests of prayer are still left unanswered, where God is teaching you to “wait”?
  2. What requests of prayer have been answered, where we can give God praise and glory?
  3. Read the following Scriptures about prayer. Take a moment to invite the Holy Spirit to fill you, and pray for one another.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-18)

…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7)

You Alone are the LORD (Isaiah 37:1-20)

5/17/2023

In the Valley (Bless the Lord)
CityAlight

When the path that I feared
Is the way He has set
And I long to give in and retreat
Still to Jesus I hold
As I face every step
For the Lord He will give me His peace

Bless the Lord! He will give me His peace
Bless the Lord! He will give me His peace
And if I should remain in the valley today
Bless the Lord, He will give mе His peace

When thе road that I tread
Fills my heart with despair
And it seems that my grief has no end
Still to Jesus I hold
Who will walk with me there
And the Lord He will give me His strength

Bless the Lord! He will give me his strength
Bless the Lord! He will give me his strength
And if I should remain in the valley today
Bless the Lord, He will give me His strength

On the road that You walked
With the weight of the cross
All my pain and my sorrow You held
So to you I shall hold
You redeem every loss
For my Lord, You have given Yourself

Bless the Lord! For He gives me Himself
Bless the Lord! For He gives me Himself
And if I should remain in the valley today
Bless the Lord! For He gives me Himself
Grace
CityAlight

Your grace that leads this sinner home
From death to life forever
And sings the song of righteousness
By blood and not by merit

Your grace that reaches far and wide
To every tribe and nation
Has called my heart to enter in
The joy of Your salvation

By grace, I am redeemed
By grace, I am restored
And now I freely walk
Into the arms of Christ my Lord

Your grace that I cannot explain
Not by my earthly wisdom
The prince of life, without a stain
Was traded for this sinner

Let praise rise up and overflow
My song resound forever
For grace will see me welcomed home
To walk beside my Saviour

  1. What has God been teaching you through last week’s message – “You Alone are the LORD” – from ISAIAH 37:1-20? Read the texts once more and discern what the holy Spirit is desiring to say through it.
----------------------------------------------
1 As soon as King Hezekiah heard it, he tore his clothes and covered himself with sackcloth and went into the house of the Lord. 2 And he sent Eliakim, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and the senior priests, covered with sackcloth, to the prophet Isaiah the son of Amoz. 3 They said to him, “Thus says Hezekiah, ‘This day is a day of distress, of rebuke, and of disgrace; children have come to the point of birth, and there is no strength to bring them forth. 4 It may be that the Lord your God will hear the words of the Rabshakeh, whom his master the king of Assyria has sent to mock the living God, and will rebuke the words that the Lord your God has heard; therefore lift up your prayer for the remnant that is left.’”

  1. [v.1-4] In King Hezekiah’s deep distress and fear, where did He go?
  2. *The biblical principle – Do not be covered by distress but go into the house of the LORD. Are you in the house – the presence – of the LORD? What remains uncovered in the house of the LORD today?
----------------------------------------------
5 When the servants of King Hezekiah came to Isaiah, 6 Isaiah said to them, “Say to your master, ‘Thus says the Lord: Do not be afraid because of the words that you have heard, with which the young men of the king of Assyria have reviled me. 7 Behold, I will put a spirit in him, so that he shall hear a rumor and return to his own land, and I will make him fall by the sword in his own land.’”
8 The Rabshakeh returned, and found the king of Assyria fighting against Libnah, for he had heard that the king had left Lachish. 9 Now the king heard concerning Tirhakah king of Cush, “He has set out to fight against you.” And when he heard it, he sent messengers to Hezekiah, saying, 10 “Thus shall you speak to Hezekiah king of Judah: ‘Do not let your God in whom you trust deceive you by promising that Jerusalem will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria. 11 Behold, you have heard what the kings of Assyria have done to all lands, devoting them to destruction. And shall you be delivered? 12 Have the gods of the nations delivered them, the nations that my fathers destroyed, Gozan, Haran, Rezeph, and the people of Eden who were in Telassar? 13 Where is the king of Hamath, the king of Arpad, the king of the city of Sepharvaim, the king of Hena, or the king of Ivvah?’

  1. [v.5-13] How did Isaiah reply to a fear-struck King Hezekiah?
  2. *The biblical principle – Do not be afraid of escalating evil but put your hope in the God who sees and promises to deliver. What do you fear? How is the fear of man growing around us? How ought we respond?

14 Hezekiah received the letter from the hand of the messengers, and read it; and Hezekiah went up to the house of the Lord, and spread it before the Lord. 15 And Hezekiah prayed to the Lord: 16 “O Lord of hosts, God of Israel, enthroned above the cherubim, you are the God, you alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth; you have made heaven and earth. 17 Incline your ear, O Lord, and hear; open your eyes, O Lord, and see; and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to mock the living God. 18 Truly, O Lord, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations and their lands, 19 and have cast their gods into the fire. For they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone. Therefore they were destroyed. 20 So now, O Lord our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that you alone are the Lord.”

  1. [v.14-20] What did King Hezekiah do after receiving the letter with escalating threats?
  2. *The biblical principle – Pray to the LORD, who inclines our ears and eyes to see He alone is the LORD. How can you incline over decline in prayer by praying what King Hezekiah prayed?

The central truth of this word was – There will be many things to fear in life. – *How has the LORD spoken to you today through this?

----------------------------------------------
Life-Praying
Pray for one another. Give credit and glory to God for answered requests. Wait on the LORD for unanswered requests. Turn away from closed doors and where the Spirit prompts to go another way. Take a moment to invite the Holy Spirit to fill you, and pray for one another.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-18)

Do Not Answer (ISAIAH 36:11-22)

5/11/2023

On That Day
CityAlight

I believe in Christ, risen from the dead
He now reigns victorious, His kingdom knows no end
Through His resurrection, death has lost its hold
I know on that final day, I'll rise as Jesus rose

On that day, we will see You
Shining brighter than the sun
On that day, we will know You
As we lift our voice as one
'Til that day, we will praise You
For Your never-ending grace
And we will keep on singing on that glorious day

What a blessed hope, though now tired and worn
We will spend eternity around our Saviour's throne
Though we grieve our losses, we grieve not in vain
For we know our crown of glory waits beyond the grave

Hallelujah what a day it will be!
For at home with You, my joy is complete
As I run into Your arms open wide, I will see
My Father who is waiting for me
Your Will Be Done
CityAlight

Your will be done, my God and Father
As in Heaven, so on Earth
My heart is drawn to self-exalting
Help me seek Your kingdom first

As Jesus walked, so I shall walk
Held by Your same unchanging love
Be still my soul, O lift your voice and pray
"Father, not my will but Yours be done"

How in that Garden He persisted
I may never fully know
The fearful weight of true obedience
It was held by Him alone

What wondrous faith to bear that cross
To bear my sin, what wondrous love
My hope was sure, when there my Saviour prayed
"Father, not my will but Yours be done"

When I am lost, when I am broken
In the night of fear and doubt
Still, I will trust in my good Father
Yes, to one great King I bow

As Jesus rose, so I shall rise
In ransomed glory at the throne
My heart restored
With all Your saints, I sing
"Father, not my will but Yours be done"

As we go forth, our God and Father
Lead us daily in the fight
That all the world might see Your glory
And Your Name be lifted high

And in this Name we overcome
For You shall see us safely home
Now as Your church, we lift our voice and pray
"Father, not my will but Yours be done"
  1. What has God been teaching you through last week’s message – “Do Not Answer” – from ISAIAH 36:11-22? Read the texts once more and discern what the holy Spirit is desiring to say through it.
----------------------------------------------
11 Then Eliakim, Shebna, and Joah said to the Rabshakeh, “Please speak to your servants in Aramaic, for we understand it. Do not speak to us in the language of Judah within the hearing of the people who are on the wall.” 12 But the Rabshakeh said, “Has my master sent me to speak these words to your master and to you, and not to the men sitting on the wall, who are doomed with you to eat their own dung and drink their own urine?” 13 Then the Rabshakeh stood and called out in a loud voice in the language of Judah: “Hear the words of the great king, the king of Assyria!

  1. [v.11-13] Why did Judah’s officials (Eliakim, Shebna, Joah) want this evil Assyrian commander to speak a different language?
  2. *The biblical principle – If you are more concerned with how you will be heard by people over how God will hear you, do not speak. Where and to whom is God calling you to be still and not speak?
----------------------------------------------
14 Thus says the king: ‘Do not let Hezekiah deceive you, for he will not be able to deliver you. 15 Do not let Hezekiah make you trust in the Lord by saying, “The Lord will surely deliver us. This city will not be given into the hand of the king of Assyria.” 16 Do not listen to Hezekiah. For thus says the king of Assyria: Make your peace with me and come out to me. Then each one of you will eat of his own vine, and each one of his own fig tree, and each one of you will drink the water of his own cistern, 17 until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of grain and wine, a land of bread and vineyards. 18 Beware lest Hezekiah mislead you by saying, “The Lord will deliver us.” Has any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria? 19 Where are the gods of Hamath and Arpad? Where are the gods of Sepharvaim? Have they delivered Samaria out of my hand? 20 Who among all the gods of these lands have delivered their lands out of my hand, that the Lord should deliver Jerusalem out of my hand?’” 21 But they were silent and answered him not a word, for the king's command was, “Do not answer him.”

  1. [v.14-21] While his character and words were being falsified, what did King Hezekiah do?
  2. *The biblical principle – Do not be deceived to correct the adversary’s lies and justify yourself, for the LORD will surely deliver you. How have we been deceived by trying to justify ourselves without first staying still before the LORD?

22 Then Eliakim the son of Hilkiah, who was over the household, and Shebna the secretary, and Joah the son of Asaph, the recorder, came to Hezekiah with their clothes torn, and told him the words of the Rabshakeh.

  1. [v.22] In their fear and hopeless despair, what did Judah’s officials do after hearing the proud taunts of the Assyrian commander?
  2. *The biblical principle – Have your mouth guarded over your clothes torn – do not be defeated in despair but immovable in the words of God. When have you tore clothes before guarded mouth and heart?
----------------------------------------------

The central truth of this word was – As much as what is spoken, what is kept from being spoken is just as important before the LORD. – *How has the LORD spoken to you today through this?

For the LORD has a Day of Vengeance
(ISAIAH 34:1-17)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
God’s vengeance is just and good. Our vengeance is corrupt and evil. Hand over your vengeance by giving attention to the LORD’s fury over your own fury. We fall under His Son’s grace – not His sword. Only God can bring full recompense of vengeance, so keep seeking and reading His book to be assured that He turns our deserts into His fruitful garden. Bless over curse, for we possess every blessing in Christ for it!
KEY VERSE: 1 Draw near, O nations, to hear, and give attention, O peoples! Let the earth hear, and all that fills it; the world, and all that comes from it.
2 For the Lord is enraged against all the nations, and furious against all their host; he has devoted them to destruction, has given them over for slaughter… 8 For the Lord has a day of vengeance, a year of recompense for the cause of Zion… 16 Seek and read from the book of the Lord: Not one of these shall be missing; none shall be without her mate. For the mouth of the Lord has commanded, and his Spirit has gathered them.

*EASTER: Blessed are Those Who Have Not Seen
(JOHN 20:24-31)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
None of us have seen the resurrection of Jesus, and for that we are blessed. By being with the fellowship of a covenanted family of God, we see a glimpse of it. By releasing our demands (“unless You…”), we avoid the snare of unbelief. By knowing we are seen by Jesus over being able to see Him, our faith rests on solid ground. Although we can’t see Him, the written Word gifts us a life seen by Him, and that is enough!
KEY VERSE: 24 Now Thomas, one of the twelve, called the Twin, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see in his hands the mark of the nails, and place my finger into the mark of the nails, and place my hand into his side, I will never believe.”… 29 Jesus said to him, “Have you believed because you have seen me? Blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.” 30 Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not written in this book; 31 but these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

*GOOD FRIDAY: While We Were Still Sinners
(ROMANS 5:6-11)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
What is so good about this Friday? Even while we kept on sinning, Jesus kept on enduring, even to death on a cross. The Father was waiting for His perfect timing to fully give up His only Son in the unsparing death on the cross – once for all – in order to show the extent of His love for us. By the cross, on the last day mercy will triumph over His wrath, for it has been poured out already on His own Son over His own enemies. Now even while still being His enemies, the cross speaks that we have already been reconciled to God.
KEY VERSE: 8 but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us… 10 For if while we were enemies we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, now that we are reconciled, shall we be saved by his life. 11 More than that, we also rejoice in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have now received reconciliation.

Now I will Arise
(ISAIAH 33:1-12)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
When does God arise to move in our lives? At times, we are fooled to think that the LORD is sitting idly by while life progresses. Yet God is always on the move. Although we may come to an end, until God says it is, it’s not finished yet! The LORD arises to get the last word – not what destroys nor betrays you. For God to rise up, you must go down – humble yourself in His arm and wait for His grace. Until all heroes and highways are put away, God cannot arise as our Hero and Way. With nothing more you can do, God can now arise to do. Jesus, who lives in and through you, arises daily to show His unfading glory and work. Now will you arise with Him?
KEY VERSE: 1 Ah, you destroyer, who yourself have not been destroyed, you traitor, whom none has betrayed! When you have ceased to destroy, you will be destroyed; and when you have finished betraying, they will betray you. 2 O Lord, be gracious to us; we wait for you. Be our arm every morning, our salvation in the time of trouble… 5 The Lord is exalted, for he dwells on high; he will fill Zion with justice and righteousness, 6 and he will be the stability of your times, abundance of salvation, wisdom, and knowledge; the fear of the Lord is Zion's treasure… 10 “Now I will arise,” says the Lord, “now I will lift myself up; now I will be exalted.

  2. What requests of prayer have been answered by God, where we can give Him praise and glory?

When I Survey
by Isaac Watts/Vineyard Worship

Verse 1
When I survey the wondrous cross
On which the Prince of glory died
My richest gain I count but loss
And pour contempt on all my pride

Verse 2
Forbid it Lord that I should boast
Save in the death of Christ my God
All the vain things that charm me most
I sacrifice them to His blood

Verse 3
See from His head, His hands, His feet
Sorrow and love flow mingled down
Did ere such love and sorrow meet
Or thorns compose so rich a crown

Verse 4
Were the whole realm of nature mine
That were an offering far too small
Love so amazing so divine
Demands my soul,
Shall have my soul
Shall have my soul
My life, my all
Pour Out My Heart
by Vineyard Worship/Brenton Brown

Here I am once again
I pour out my heart
For I know that You hear
Every cry
You are listening
No matter what state my heart is in
You are faithful to answer
With words that are true
And a hope that is real
As I feel Your touch
You bring a freedom to all that’s within

In the safety of this place
       I’m longing to . . .

Pour out my heart, to say that I love You
Pour out my heart, to say that I need You
Pour out my heart, to say that I’m thankful
          Pour out my heart,
          to say that You’re wonderful!

  1. What has God been teaching you through the visions of the book of ISAIAH and messages this past month? Pick one of the prior week’s central truths and discern what the holy Spirit is desiring to say through it.

Hear My Voice, You Complacent
(ISAIAH 32:9-20)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
Do you hear the LORD’s voice to rise up today? Let us not settle with where we are, complacent to what should be uneasy within us, as is uneasy on God’s mind. Learn holy discontentment, to be uneasy and grieve first at our own sins, and then at the brokenness around us. The gift of God’s Spirit has already been poured out through Jesus Christ. Let us not just take sips and drips of Him, but walk and move with Him in godliness and wisdom, showing all the effect of what the Spirit is doing through us for one another – restoring, reviving, reconciling, resting in the dwelling of being fully content – not in ourselves – but in pursuing more and more of Jesus Christ alone.
KEY VERSE: 9 Rise up, you women who are at ease, hear my voice; you complacent daughters, give ear to my speech... 15 until the Spirit is poured upon us from on high, and the wilderness becomes a fruitful field, and the fruitful field is deemed a forest.

Built Up – Praise & Prayer Night
(1 PETER 2:1-10)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
It is time to grow up into salvation, if indeed we have been born again through the living and abiding word of God. The Father God is laying His precious Cornerstone (Jesus Christ) to build our new church community. Will you be a living stone laid next to Him, or a stumbling stone that rejects Him? Be a living stone – not a dying stone. Remember who you are and what our mission is to the English-speaking world – to spread the love of God in Jesus Christ for the joy of all peoples, one precious soul at a time, from Dallas-Fort Worth to the uttermost parts of the earth
KEY VERSE: 2 Like newborn infants, long for the pure spiritual milk, that by it you may grow up into salvation— 3 if indeed you have tasted that the Lord is good. 4 As you come to him, a living stone rejected by men but in the sight of God chosen and precious, 5 you yourselves like living stones are being built up as a spiritual house, to be a holy priesthood, to offer spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ… 9 But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.

A King will Reign in Righteousness
(ISAIAH 32:1-8)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
God is not just removing our unrighteousness, but making us righteous rulers with His eternal Son, King Jesus Christ. Like royal princes and princesses, we have a new identity that can never leave us unsheltered nor unchanged, opening our eyes, ears, hearts, and tongues to this gifted royalty. As Jesus reigns in us, the integrity of His character grows in godliness as we rule by being ruled, lead by being led, serve by being served with the reign of King Jesus within us.

KEY VERSE: 1 Behold, a king will reign in righteousness, and princes will rule in justice. 2 Each will be like a hiding place from the wind, a shelter from the storm, like streams of water in a dry place, like the shade of a great rock in a weary land. 3 Then the eyes of those who see will not be closed, and the ears of those who hear will give attention. 4 The heart of the hasty will understand and know, and the tongue of the stammerers will hasten to speak distinctly.

Do Not Rely on Horses and Chariots
(ISAIAH 31:1-9)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
We all need help at all times. Where are you finding yours? What appears many and strong – is it really from the LORD? May the LORD stretch out His hand to be the destroyer of your helpers/helps apart from Him. May our secret help and weapon not be what is sinfully made for ourselves but in the helpless cry of surrender that turns our face towards Jesus Christ by the power of His Spirit, who alone is our Defender and our Keeper!
KEY VERSE: 1 Woe to those who go down to Egypt for help and rely on horses, who trust in chariots because they are many and in horsemen because they are very strong, but do not look to the Holy One of Israel or consult the Lord!... 6 Turn to him from whom people have deeply revolted, O children of Israel. 7 For in that day everyone shall cast away his idols of silver and his idols of gold, which your hands have sinfully made for you.

I Will Wait for You (Psalm 130)
by Shane & Shane

Verse 1
Out of the depths I cry to You
In darkest places I will call
Incline Your ear to me anew
And hear my cry for mercy Lord

Verse 2
Were You to count my sinful ways
How could I come before Your throne
Yet full forgiveness meets my gaze
I stand redeemed by grace alone

I will wait for You, I will wait for You
On Your word I will rely
I will wait for You, surely wait for You
         'Til my soul is satisfied

Verse 3
So put Your hope in God alone
Take courage in His power to save
Completely and forever won
By Christ emerging from the grave

Verse 4
Now He has come to make a way
And God Himself has paid the price
That all who trust in Him today
Find healing in His sacrifice
That all who trust in Him today
Find healing in His sacrifice

I will wait for You, I will wait for You
Through the storm and through the night
I will wait for You, surely wait for You
For Your love is my delight

Wait on You
by Elevation Worship & Maverick City

Verse 1
I don’t believe in fairy tales
I guess I’ve outgrown them
But that doesn’t mean I don’t believe that there’s
something bigger than me
Cause I’ve seen it in a hospital room
When the doctors said,
“Sorry there’s nothing more we can do”
Well it wasn’t through

Verse 2
I’ve never seen a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow
But I’ve got a promise I can hold in the middle of
the struggle
God if you said it You’ll perform it
May not be how I want You to
But here’s what I’ll do

I’m gonna wait on You
I’m gonna wait on You
I’ve tasted Your goodness
I’ll trust in Your promise
I’m gonna wait on You

Verse 3
I know You’ve ordered every step
Yeah, You are the Author
And there’s no predicting what is next
But You hold the future
And all the questions they come second to the
one I know is true
You’ve always been true

          Wait on the Lord
          Wait on the Lord
          He will renew your strength
          So wait I say

They that wait on the Lord
                 Shall renew their strength
They shall mount up, up on wings
                 Like an eagle, and soar
They shall walk, and not get weary
They shall run, and not faint
That's what happens when you wait…
                 You’ll get a little stronger…

  1. What has God been teaching you through the visions of the book of ISAIAH and messages this past month? Pick one of the prior week’s central truths and discern what the holy Spirit is desiring to say through it.

Blessed are those who Wait for the LORD
(ISAIAH 30:18-33)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
If you want to know the grace, mercy, and justice of God, you must learn to wait. It is not your present time, but all time under every season belonging to Him, who acts on behalf of you. So wait as much as Jesus waits daily to heal and make glad your heart for Him!
KEY VERSE: 18 Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him.

In Returning and Rest You Shall Be Saved

(ISAIAH 30:1-17)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
We make ourselves busier than we need to be. This results in spiritual stubbornness as God interrupts our busy lives. Let us put away our plans that end in shame and unwillingness to enter His rest in quietness and trust. Be busy resting in the solace of Jesus!
KEY VERSE: 15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling, 16 and you said, “No! We will flee upon horses”; therefore you shall flee away; and, “We will ride upon swift steeds”; therefore your pursuers shall be swift.

The LORD is with You
(PSALM 23) by Rev. Michael Chung
CENTRAL TRUTH:
The LORD is our sufficiency (v.1-3), our security (v.4), our victory (v.5), our eternity (v.6). He is with us, leading us through – not to – the valleys. We are only hit by the shadow of death and not death itself.
KEY VERSE: 4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me.

Jacob Shall No More Be Ashamed
(ISAIAH 29:13-24)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
Stop shaming God and yourself in the process. God wants the heart over the mouth. We can’t hide the heart for He sees and understands everything. Don’t stay in shame but in His fresh joy. Grow into sanctification, for in Jesus, shame is no more, forevermore!
KEY VERSE: 13 And the Lord said: “Because this people draw near with their mouth and honor me with their lips, while their hearts are far from me, and their fear of me is a commandment taught by men, 14 therefore, behold, I will again do wonderful things with this people, with wonder upon wonder; and the wisdom of their wise men shall perish, and the discernment of their discerning men shall be hidden.”

Life-Sharing
What has God been teaching you through the visions of the book of ISAIAH? Pick one of the prior week’s central truth and explain how the LORD spoke into your life.

Give Counsel, Grant Justice
(ISAIAH 16)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
Need counsel? Look for it in the right place. “Send the lamb” into your situation – Jesus Christ – who shelters you in steadfast love and faithfulness. All counsel apart from this stems from pride, leaving us empty-handed. Look for His counsel already spoken.
KEY VERSE: 3 “Give counsel; grant justice; make your shade like night at the height of noon; shelter the outcasts; do not reveal the fugitive; 4 let the outcasts of Moab sojourn among you; be a shelter to them from the destroyer. When the oppressor is no more, and destruction has ceased, and he who tramples underfoot has vanished from the land,

Look on the Holy One
(ISAIAH 17)
CENTRAL TRUTH: Partners in sin are couples in judgment. Just as Israel partnered with godless Syria for protection, looking away from God makes us a heap of ruins one day. The ruins help us look on the Holy One! Remember your Rock of refuge, Jesus Christ. Look on Him!
KEY VERSE: 7 In that day man will look to his Maker, and his eyes will look on the Holy One of Israel. 8 He will not look to the altars, the work of his hands, and he will not look on what his own fingers have made, either the Asherim or the altars of incense.

I will Quietly Look from My Dwelling
(ISAIAH 18)
CENTRAL TRUTH: God is not slow to fulfill His work. He has no need for help from the land of whirring wings, which we chase after for advice. Instead, He quietly looks from His dwelling while His work presses on, shaping us into givers of tributes in worship to Jesus Christ.
KEY VERSE: 4 For thus the Lord said to me: “I will quietly look from my dwelling like clear heat in sunshine, like a cloud of dew in the heat of harvest.” 5 For before the harvest, when the blossom is over, and the flower becomes a ripening grape, he cuts off the shoots with pruning hooks, and the spreading branches he lops off and clears away.

Tremble at His Presence
(ISAIAH 19:1-15)
CENTRAL TRUTH: Come before the great and awesome all-consuming presence of the LORD today through the indwelling holy Spirit. His presence trembles the world of our idols, dries up the source of dependence, and makes utterly foolish all counsel apart from Jesus Christ.
KEY VERSE: 1An oracle concerning Egypt. Behold, the Lord is riding on a swift cloud and comes to Egypt; and the idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence, and the heart of the Egyptians will melt within them.

How has your walk with the Lord grown since the last time we gathered? What areas of your spiritual health have been nourished? What areas are still in need of growth that we can treat together with the Word and Spirit?

What hardships, difficulties, trials, and/or unanswered prayers are you going through that we can all carry together as one body in Christ?

“In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world,” says Jesus (JOHN 16:33). How can we take heart today and overcome?

Life-Sharing
What has God been teaching you through the visions of the book of ISAIAH? Pick one of the prior week’s central truth and explain how the LORD spoke into your life.

For God is With Us
(ISAIAH 8:1-10)
CENTRAL TRUTH: God is not slow in fulfilling His promised judgment. He acts in speed and in totality to turn us back to Him. Even evil itself is not spared to signal He truly is with us, for us, pruning us to be broken, shattered, and seeking the face of Jesus Christ once again.

I will Wait for the LORD
(ISAIAH 8:11-22)
CENTRAL TRUTH: Wait on the Lord when clear signs from the Lord become unclear. Waiting is neither inactive slothfulness nor proactive anxiousness. It is to call out the real object of your fear, to inquire the hidden face of God, to hunger after the teaching and testimony again.

For to Us A Child Is Born
(ISAIAH 9:1-7)
CENTRAL TRUTH: When all hope is lost, then begins real hope to be found. Thick darkness is no match for even thinnest light. The light shined forth as a child to show power in powerlessness, to assure promise kept over promise broken. Jesus Christ shining forth transforms it all.

His Anger Has Not Turned Away
(ISAIAH 9:8-21)
CENTRAL TRUTH: God’s anger will not turn away from continuous prideful arrogance. To the one who says, “I’ll build my own way” even after being shown God’s way, that way ends in scorching dryness. We’ll end up harming our own body – His church. God’s hands stretch against it.

By the Strength of His Hand
(ISAIAH 10:1-19)
CENTRAL TRUTH: Arrogance is like an axe that takes credit for what the worker produces with it. Can instruments boast above their skilled users? God uses the falsehood of arrogance to show us the strength of His hand, so that in all things, we might say, He has done it.

Lean on the LORD in Truth
(ISAIAH 10:20-34)
CENTRAL TRUTH: A day will come when we will no longer learn to lean on ourselves or another, but lean on the LORD in truth. By all means, God brings us to His shoulder to fear Him over the “what if’s” of life. Behold, the LORD God of armies clears the path! Follow Jesus today.

From His Roots Shall Bear Fruit
(ISAIAH 11:1-9)
CENTRAL TRUTH: When arrogance is cut down to a lifeless stump, an unmatured stem (shoot) of godly humility begins to grow. Jesus chose the stump over a majestic tree. Rooted here, we grow together in the Spirit, where once-enemies can now be family in Christ.

A Second Time
(ISAIAH 11:10-16)
CENTRAL TRUTH: In Jesus Christ, there is always a second time, a new beginning. This arrives by inquiring the Lord, who gathers His people in conflict towards correction, so that together they may walk across His highway that destroys the enemy of dispersion and division.

The LORD is My Strength and My Song
(ISAIAH 12:1-6)
CENTRAL TRUTH: There is day when there will be no more death nor sin, but only strength and song. What we say in that day will be, “give thanks.” What we behold in that day will be our salvation. What we do in that day will be to draw water for all to drink from the wells of Christ.

The Day of the LORD is Near
(ISAIAH 13:1-10)
CENTRAL TRUTH: People may have their day, but the LORD will have His soon. On that day, the burden of God’s heart will be seen, the sound of His multitudes will be heard, the agony of His wrath will be felt. Flee Babylon. Look at Jesus. Hear Him. Rejoice, for His day is near!

I will Punish the World for its Evil
(ISAIAH 13:11-22)
CENTRAL TRUTH: On that awesome day of the LORD, all evil will be punished by even greater evilness. Through this civil war of evil against evil, God’s righteous wrath will be stirred up. The heavens will tremble. The earth will shake. But the veil was torn! Trust in Jesus alone!

The LORD will have Compassion Again
(ISAIAH 14:1-15)
CENTRAL TRUTH: Judgment upon a fallen world ensures compassion upon God’s humbled people. Compassion still chooses the same, still restores it all, still gives rest unending. On that Day, compassion will fall from heaven, humbling us to highest joy – Jesus Christ!

As I Have Planned, So Shall It Be
(ISAIAH 14:16-32)
CENTRAL TRUTH: God is sovereignly in control of your past, present, future, according to His good and holy purpose. Stare and ponder at this over all troubles. Trust in His sworn word that it is done. Our plans will end up broken, so lean on the refuge in His plan – Jesus Christ!

Undone in a Night
(ISAIAH 15:1-9)
CENTRAL TRUTH: If we continue to trust in the lust of our flesh, what is right in our own eyes, the pride of what we have, everything can be undone in a night. These high places cannot save us, and even more emptiness will remain. Today, collapse on Jesus! Obey Him! Ascend to Him!

In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world,”
says Jesus (JOHN 16:33). How can we take heart today and overcome?

Life-Praying
What requests of prayer are still left unanswered, where God has said “no” or “wait”? What requests of prayer have been answered by God in the last month? Read the following Scriptures about prayer, and close by praying for one another!

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-18)

… do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7)

Here I Am! Send Me
(ISAIAH 6:8-13)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
God is looking for someone willing to be sent, taking-up the task of going. Just be available, teachable, faithful – touched by His holy presence. Once convicted and cleansed, we are commissioned by God, even to a fruitless, difficult, and lengthy mission.
KEY VERSE: 8 And I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” Then I said, “Here I am! Send me.”

Do Not Let Your Heart Be Faint
(ISAIAH 7:1-9)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
Temporary solutions are not permanent answers. God reveals a permanent future to realign our temporary present decisions. Be careful, be quiet, do not fear, do not let your heart be faint. Christ within you is stronger than what overtakes you.
KEY VERSE: 3 And the Lord said to Isaiah, “Go out to meet Ahaz, you and Shear-jashub your son, at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the highway to the Washer's Field. 4 And say to him, ‘Be careful, be quiet, do not fear, and do not let your heart be faint because of these two smoldering stumps of firebrands

You Shall Call His Name Immanuel
(ISAIAH 7:10-25)
CENTRAL TRUTH:
When God challenges us to trust in Him, He invites us to ask for a sign. The signs show that He indeed is truly the God with us (Immanuel). These signs are fulfilled both presently within our life and ultimately in Jesus Christ –  who is the constant sign of Immanuel.
KEY VERSE: 12 But Ahaz said, “I will not ask, and I will not put the Lord to the test.” 13 And he said, “Hear then, O house of David! Is it too little for you to weary men, that you weary my God also? 14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign. Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.

  • If you’ve been able to join us on Wednesday’s Walk into the Word, how has the Lord spoken to you through JOHN chapters 8-10 so far?
  • How has your walk with the Lord grown since last month? What areas of your spiritual health have been nourished? What areas are still in need of growth that we can treat together with the Word and Spirit?
  • What hardships, difficulties, trials, and/or unanswered prayers are you going through that we can all carry together as one body in Christ?
  • From inflation, Uvalde shooting, Ukraine war, Capital riot investigations, etc – “In this world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world,” says Jesus (JOHN 16:33). How can we take heart today and overcome?

Life-Praying
  • What requests of prayer are still left unanswered, and God is asking to wait for His time?
  • What requests of prayer have been answered by God in the last month?
  • Read the following Scriptures about prayer, and close by praying for one another!
