I Will Wait for You (Psalm 130)
by Shane & Shane

Verse 1
Out of the depths I cry to You
In darkest places I will call
Incline Your ear to me anew
And hear my cry for mercy Lord

Verse 2
Were You to count my sinful ways
How could I come before Your throne
Yet full forgiveness meets my gaze
I stand redeemed by grace alone

I will wait for You, I will wait for You
On Your word I will rely
I will wait for You, surely wait for You
         'Til my soul is satisfied

Verse 3
So put Your hope in God alone
Take courage in His power to save
Completely and forever won
By Christ emerging from the grave

Verse 4
Now He has come to make a way
And God Himself has paid the price
That all who trust in Him today
Find healing in His sacrifice
That all who trust in Him today
Find healing in His sacrifice

I will wait for You, I will wait for You
Through the storm and through the night
I will wait for You, surely wait for You
For Your love is my delight

Wait on You
by Elevation Worship & Maverick City

Verse 1
I don’t believe in fairy tales
I guess I’ve outgrown them
But that doesn’t mean I don’t believe that there’s
something bigger than me
Cause I’ve seen it in a hospital room
When the doctors said,
“Sorry there’s nothing more we can do”
Well it wasn’t through

Verse 2
I’ve never seen a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow
But I’ve got a promise I can hold in the middle of
the struggle
God if you said it You’ll perform it
May not be how I want You to
But here’s what I’ll do

I’m gonna wait on You
I’m gonna wait on You
I’ve tasted Your goodness
I’ll trust in Your promise
I’m gonna wait on You

Verse 3
I know You’ve ordered every step
Yeah, You are the Author
And there’s no predicting what is next
But You hold the future
And all the questions they come second to the
one I know is true
You’ve always been true

          Wait on the Lord
          Wait on the Lord
          He will renew your strength
          So wait I say

They that wait on the Lord
                 Shall renew their strength
They shall mount up, up on wings
                 Like an eagle, and soar
They shall walk, and not get weary
They shall run, and not faint
That's what happens when you wait…
                 You’ll get a little stronger…

  1. What has God been teaching you through the message “Blessed are those who Wait for the LORD” from ISAIAH 30:18-33 last week? Read the text once more and discern what the holy Spirit is desiring to say through it.

18 Therefore the Lord waits to be gracious to you, and therefore he exalts himself to show mercy to you. For the Lord is a God of justice; blessed are all those who wait for him. 19 For a people shall dwell in Zion, in Jerusalem; you shall weep no more. He will surely be gracious to you at the sound of your cry. As soon as he hears it, he answers you. 20 And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. 21 And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. 22 Then you will defile your carved idols overlaid with silver and your gold-plated metal images. You will scatter them as unclean things. You will say to them, “Be gone!”

23 And he will give rain for the seed with which you sow the ground, and bread, the produce of the ground, which will be rich and plenteous. In that day your livestock will graze in large pastures, 24 and the oxen and the donkeys that work the ground will eat seasoned fodder, which has been winnowed with shovel and fork. 25 And on every lofty mountain and every high hill there will be brooks running with water, in the day of the great slaughter, when the towers fall. 26 Moreover, the light of the moon will be as the light of the sun, and the light of the sun will be sevenfold, as the light of seven days, in the day when the Lord binds up the brokenness of his people, and heals the wounds inflicted by his blow.

27 Behold, the name of the Lord comes from afar, burning with his anger, and in thick rising smoke; his lips are full of fury, and his tongue is like a devouring fire; 28 his breath is like an overflowing stream that reaches up to the neck; to sift the nations with the sieve of destruction, and to place on the jaws of the peoples a bridle that leads astray. 29 You shall have a song as in the night when a holy feast is kept, and gladness of heart, as when one sets out to the sound of the flute to go to the mountain of the Lord, to the Rock of Israel. 30 And the Lord will cause his majestic voice to be heard and the descending blow of his arm to be seen, in furious anger and a flame of devouring fire, with a cloudburst and storm and hailstones. 31 The Assyrians will be terror-stricken at the voice of the Lord, when he strikes with his rod. 32 And every stroke of the appointed staff that the Lord lays on them will be to the sound of tambourines and lyres. Battling with brandished arm, he will fight with them. 33 For a burning place has long been prepared; indeed, for the king it is made ready, its pyre made deep and wide, with fire and wood in abundance; the breath of the Lord, like a stream of sulfur, kindles it.

  1. [v.18-22] Why was the LORD waiting? Why are His people called to wait? What results from waiting for the grace of God?

  1. What are some signs that you are not waiting upon the LORD in every season of life?
  2. [v.23-26] What were both the external and internal blessings of waiting on the LORD?
  3. How has God acted on your behalf with the blessing of binding up wounds and healing brokenness (v.26) when you waited upon the LORD?
  4. [v.27-33] Although God’s people had to wait in the midst of suffering and judgment surrounding them, what did the LORD bring to their hearts (v.29)?
  5. The LORD may call us to wait in difficult times, yet how does He bring gladness of heart over anxiety in heart to show you His glorious work?
  6. The central truth of this word was - If you want to know the grace, mercy, and justice of God, you must learn to wait. It is not your present time, but all time under every season belonging to Him, who acts on behalf of you. So wait as much as Jesus waits daily to heal and make glad your heart for Him! *How do you need to wait on the LORD right now, and how is the LORD waiting on you?
  7. *What stood out the most to you through these words of the LORD?
  8. *How has your walk with the LORD been this past week? What areas of spiritual health have been nourished? What areas are still in need of growth that we can treat together with the Word and Spirit?
Life-Praying
  1. What requests of prayer are still left unanswered, where God has said “no” or “wait”?
  2. What requests of prayer have been answered by God, where we can give praise to Him?
  3. Read the following Scriptures about prayer. Take a moment to invite the Holy Spirit to fill you, and pray for one another.

Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you. (1 THESSALONIANS 5:16-18)

…do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. (PHILIPPIANS 4:6-7)

There is One Gospel
by CityAlight

Verse 1
There is one Gospel on which I stand
For all eternity
It is my story, my Father’s plan
The Son has rescued me
Oh what a Gospel, Oh what a peace
My highest joy and my deepest need
Now and forever He is my light
I stand in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Verse 2
There is one Gospel to which I cling
All else I count as loss
For there, where justice and mercy meet
He saved me on the cross
No more I boast in what I can bring
No more I carry the weight of sin
For He has brought me from death to life
I stand in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Verse 3
There is one Gospel where hope is found
The empty tomb still speaks
For death could not keep my Saviour down
He lives and I am free
Now on my Saviour, I fix my eyes
My life is His and His hope is mine!
For He has promised I, too, will rise
I stand in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Verse 4
And in this Gospel the church is one
We do not walk alone
We have His Spirit as we press on
To lead us safely home
And when in glory still I will sing
Of this old story that rescued me
Praise to my Saviour, the King of life
I stand in the Gospel of Jesus Christ

Be Still My Soul (In You I Rest)

by Kari Jobe

Be still, my soul, The Lord is on thy side
Bear patiently, the cross of grief or pain
Leave to thy God, to order and provide
In every change, He faithful will remain
Be still, my soul, thy best thy heavenly friend
Through thorny ways, leads to a joyful end

Be still, my soul, thy God doth undertake
To guide the future as He has the past
Thy hope, thy confidence, let nothing shake
All now mysterious shall be bright at last
Be still, my soul, the waves and wind still know
His voice who ruled them while He dwelt below

In You I rest, in You I found my hope
In You I trust, You never let me go
I place my life within Your hands alone
      Be still, my soul
      …

Be still, my soul, the hour is hastening on
When we shall be forever with the Lord
When disappointment, grief and fear are gone
Sorrow forgot, love's purest joys restored
Be still, my soul, when change and tears are past
All safe and blessed, we shall meet at last

  1. What has God been teaching you through the message “In Returning and Rest You Shall Be Saved” from ISAIAH 30:1-17 last week? Read the text once more and discern what the holy Spirit is desiring to say through it.

1 “Ah, stubborn children,” declares the Lord, “who carry out a plan, but not mine, and who make an alliance, but not of my Spirit, that they may add sin to sin; 2 who set out to go down to Egypt, without asking for my direction,
to take refuge in the protection of Pharaoh and to seek shelter in the shadow of Egypt! 3 Therefore shall the protection of Pharaoh turn to your shame, and the shelter in the shadow of Egypt to your humiliation. 4 For though his officials are at Zoan and his envoys reach Hanes, 5 everyone comes to shame through a people that cannot profit them, that brings neither help nor profit, but shame and disgrace.” 6 An oracle on the beasts of the Negeb. Through a land of trouble and anguish, from where come the lioness and the lion, the adder and the flying fiery serpent, they carry their riches on the backs of donkeys, and their treasures on the humps of camels, to a people that cannot profit them. 7 Egypt's help is worthless and empty; therefore I have called her “Rahab who sits still.”

8 And now, go, write it before them on a tablet and inscribe it in a book,
that it may be for the time to come as a witness forever. 9 For they are a rebellious people, lying children, children unwilling to hear the instruction of the Lord; 10 who say to the seers, “Do not see,” and to the prophets, “Do not prophesy to us what is right; speak to us smooth things, prophesy illusions, 11 leave the way, turn aside from the path, let us hear no more about the Holy One of Israel.” 12 Therefore thus says the Holy One of Israel, “Because you despise this word and trust in oppression and perverseness and rely on them, 13 therefore this iniquity shall be to you like a breach in a high wall, bulging out and about to collapse, whose breaking comes suddenly, in an instant; 14 and its breaking is like that of a potter's vessel that is smashed so ruthlessly
that among its fragments not a shard is found with which to take fire from the hearth, or to dip up water out of the cistern.”

15 For thus said the Lord God, the Holy One of Israel, “In returning and rest you shall be saved; in quietness and in trust shall be your strength.” But you were unwilling, 16 and you said, “No! We will flee upon horses”; therefore you shall flee away; and, “We will ride upon swift steeds”; therefore your pursuers shall be swift. 17 A thousand shall flee at the threat of one; at the threat of five you shall flee, till you are left like a flagstaff on the top of a mountain, like a signal on a hill.

  1. How were God’s children busying themselves with alternative places of refuge (v.1-7)?
  2. What kind of heart attitude resulted (v.8-14)?
  3. In their busy lives apart from Him, what is God’s solution (v. 15-17)?
  4. Why are we so busy? How can it be dangerous to our life with God and His family?
  5. How does becoming busy also make us become “unwilling” to the things of God?

  1. When has an attitude of unwillingness led to outright denial and distortion of God’s conviction in your life?
  2. How are we busy yet still unproductive, especially in our life with the LORD?
  3. The central truth of this word was - We make ourselves busier than we need to be. This results in spiritual stubbornness as God interrupts our busy lives. Let us put away our plans that end in shame and unwillingness to enter His rest in quietness and trust. Be busy resting in the solace of Jesus! *What is the difference between “rest” and “recreation” or “relaxation”?
  4. *What stood out the most to you through these words of the LORD?
  5. How does this Word encourage you to rest?
  6. *How has your walk with the LORD been this past week? What areas of spiritual health have been nourished? What areas are still in need of growth that we can treat together with the Word and Spirit?

Such an Awesome God
by Maverick City Music

Verse 1
You call the sun to rise
And You lay it down to rest
You hold this heart of mine
And You hold my every breath

        Such an awesome God
        So mighty
        So holy
        So wonderful
        Such an awesome God
        So selfless
        So generous
        So faithful, You are

Verse 2
Seated in majesty
Reigning in holiness
The table is set for me
For You are the living bread

Bridge
And nothing comes close to the Lord Almighty
Nothing as sweet as His love and mercy
Nothing comes close to the Lord Almighty
And nothing as sweet as Your love and mercy

Verse 3
Jesus, the Son of God
Hung on a cross to die
But not even death itself
Could hold You down, for You rose to life

Bridge #2
The name of God is mercy
O, the name of God is love
O, the name of God is kindness
And He's pouring out on us
O, He's pouring out on us
…
Pouring out on us (pouring out on us)
And it's pouring out of us (pouring out of us)
And now it's pouring out of us (it's pouring out of us)

Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me

by CityAlight

What gift of grace is Jesus, my redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to His
O, how strange and divine,
I can sing, "All is mine"
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

The night is dark but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Saviour, He will stay
I labor on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need, His power is displayed
To this I hold, my Shepherd will defend me
Through the deepest valley, He will lead
O, the night has been won,
and I shall overcome
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And He was raised to overthrow the grave
To this I hold, my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh, the chains are released,
I can sing, "I am free"
Yet not I, but through Christ in me

With every breath, I long to follow Jesus
For He has said that He will bring me home
And day by day, I know He will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne
To this I hold, my hope is only Jesus
All the glory evermore to Him
When the race is complete,
still my lips shall repeat
"Yet not I, but through Christ in me"
…

  1. What has God been teaching you through the message “the LORD is with you” from PSALM 23 from last week? Read the text once more and discern what the holy Spirit is desiring to say through it.

1 A Psalm of David. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.
2     He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
3
    He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
    for his name's sake.
4 Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.
5 You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.
6 Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me
all the days of my life,
and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord
    forever.

  1. How is the LORD your sufficiency (v.1-3)? How is the LORD your security (v.4)? How is the LORD your victory (v.5)? How is the LORD your eternity (v.6)?
  2. Are sheep intelligent animals? Why or why not?
  3. What 4 “NO” requirements did sheep need in order to “lie down in green pastures”? (*hint – they all start with “f”)
  4. Why are we are guaranteed to be led “in paths of righteousness” – whose name is on the line?
  5. Is the LORD leading us to walk to the valley or through the valley?

  1. Why will all our  valleys just be the “shadow of death” and not “death” itself?
  2. What is the difference between the “rod” and the “staff”? How does the LORD use both?
  3. Like a cup, what is the LORD preparing for you to be, even in the presence of enemies?
  4. What is following you, chasing you, all the days of your life?
  5. *What stood out the most to you through these words of the LORD?
  6. *How has your walk with the LORD been this past week? What areas of spiritual health have been nourished? What areas are still in need of growth that we can treat together with the Word and Spirit?
  7. What are your “valleys of the shadow of death”, unanswered prayers, trials, difficulties, burdens that we can all carry together as one body in Christ? How does this Word encourage you?

Life-Praying
  1. What requests of prayer are still left unanswered, where God has said “no” or “wait”?
  2. What requests of prayer have been answered by God, where we can give praise to Him?
