John [chapter 6]5/18/2022 My Jesus, I Love Thee
by William R. Featherston (1862) My Jesus, I love Thee, I know Thou art mine For Thee all the follies of sin I resign My gracious Redeemer, my Savior art Thou If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now I love Thee because Thou hast first loved me And purchased my pardon on Calvary's tree I love Thee for wearing the thorns on thy brow If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now In mansions of glory and endless delight I'll ever adore Thee in heaven so bright I'll sing with the glittering crown on my brow If ever I loved Thee, my Jesus, 'tis now My Redeemer Lives by John Willison For I know my Redeemer lives And in the end He will stand on the earth For I know my Redeemer lives And in the end He will reign on the earth Though my flesh it be destroyed Yet with my eyes I will see God For I know that my Redeemer lives And I will stand with Him on that day For I know that my Redeemer lives And I will stand with Him on that day O my heart it yearns within me For the day when Jesus returns O my heart it yearns within me For the day when Jesus shall reign Draw Me Close to You by Donnie McClurkin/Michael W. Smith You're all I want You're all I've ever needed You're all I want Help me know You are near THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO JOHN 요한복음 (part 7): Bread of Life 생명의 떡 (6:1-71) BREAD FOR EARTH (6:1-15) (Question #1) Why did a large crowd follow Jesus around wherever He went (see verse 1-2)? [*REFLECT #1a] Why do you follow Jesus? What signs are you looking for? [*REFLECT #1b] As the large crowd came towards them, what did Jesus ask Philip and why (see verse 3-6)? [*REFLECT #1c] Although God does not tempt us, He does test us. What is the difference between tempting and testing (see James 1:2-4 for testing; see James 1:13-15 for tempting)? [*REFLECT #1d] How did Philip and Andrew respond to the dilemma of feeding this large crowd (see verse 7-9)? [*REFLECT #1e] How is being accurate not always how Jesus calculates accuracy? How is our view of what is little actually very big in the eyes of Jesus? (Question #2) About how many men only were there that day (see verse 10)? [*REFLECT #2a] Jesus decided to use the boy’s five barley loaves and two fish. What did He do with them and how much were they able to (see verse 11)? [*REFLECT #2b] It appears the loaves and fish multiplied in Jesus’ hands as He distributed them to the hungry crowd. How is what is little in our hands be great in His hands, giving thanks to God? How can the little things be the great things before Jesus? How is giving thanks to God for the little things the power to turn them into great things? [*REFLECT #2c] Jesus wanted to leave nothing to waste, so He asked the disciples to gather the leftovers fragments. How many baskets were filled (see verse 12-14)? [*REFLECT #2d] How is nothing lost nor wasted in all that God does in your life? Even as we are pushed to the limits of following Christ and serving His people, what does Jesus leave for us in the end? [*REFLECT #2e] Instead of receiving the praises of men as King of bread on earth, what did Jesus do (see verse 15)? THE GOD OF BREAD (6:16-21) (Question #3) From the other Gospels, we know that Jesus made the disciples go on ahead of Him across the sea, while He went up on a mountainside to pray. Jesus finished His prayer shortly before dawn. Then perhaps since there was no boat available at the time, decided to walk on the sea to His disciples. They are frightened, but what does Jesus say to them (see verse 16-20)? (Question #4) When Jesus came into the boat, what happened (verse 21)? What Jesus steps into our lives, what happens? BREAD FROM HEAVEN (6:22-59) (Question #5) There was only one boat available that left the shore that evening, which Jesus did was not in, for Jesus had walked on the sea. The crowds began to ask how He got to the other side. How does Jesus reply to them (verse 22-27)? (Question #6) What is the unperishable food that we must be working for (verse 28-29)? (Question #7) Even after being miraculously fed the day prior, the crowd still asks for another sign. What does Jesus say about the bread that Moses gave – where did it actually come from and who was it pointing to (verse 30-36)? (Question #8) What is the will of the Father for Jesus Christ (verse 37-40)? (Question #9) How do we come to Jesus (verse 41-45)? What happens when you eat the bread of life and what is it (verse 46-51)? (Question #10) To have life in Christ, what must we do figurately with His flesh and why (verse 52-59)? BREAD OF LIFE (6:60-71) (Question #11) Although Jesus’ words are Spirit and life, what did He know from the beginning (60-65)? (Question #12) While many turned their back on Jesus as the bread from heaven, what did Peter say (verse 66-71)?
